Travelling

TedFest would like to keep the carbon footprint of the festival as low as possible, so if you are driving, please offer lifts to your fellow Teds, where at all possible. You can post messages on liftshare section of the Holy Forum.

1. By car

For those travelling from Dublin, preferably use the Galway road, N6, (less traffic and no necessity to go through Limerick, which can be a traffic bottleneck). Keep following the N6 for Galway until you get to Loughrea. Go through Loughrea town centre and turn left in Loughrea for Gort. In Gort turn right at the T junction in the town centre, then left to Corofin. In Corofin turn right for Kilfenora. Journey time approximately 3.5-4 hours. Alternatively use the Limerick road, N7, and follow instructions from Limerick below.

Travelling from Cork, take the Limerick road, then the Shannon and Galway road (N18). Take the exit for Ennistymon. This takes you onto the new Ennis bypass. Keep following signs for Ennistymon until about a mile the far side of Ennis you turn right for Corofin, Kilfenora and Lisdoonvarna. Kilfenora is about 18 miles from Ennis. Journey time approx. 2.5 hours.

From Limerick, take the Shannon and Galway road (N18). From Galway, take the Limerick road, then at Kilcolgan turn right for Kinvara. After Kinvara turn left for Corofin, taking you through the Burren and the village of Carran. Go through Carran village, and when you reach a T junction turn left, then right at the next T junction for Kilfenora. Journey time approx. 1-1.5 hours.

2. By train or bus

Trains terminate in Ennis. The train station and bus station are co-located. There is one bus on Monday from Ennis to Kilfenora at 15.00, arriving in Kilfenora at 15.40. There is no bus on Sunday. There are regular buses from Galway, Limerick and Cork to Ennis, and trains from Limerick to Ennis.

More information is available on the Bus Eireann and Irish Rail websites

3. Taxi

Taxis cost approximately €70 per vehicle from Shannon, or €40 from Ennis (do not accept per head charging, it is illegal!). Journey time is about 1 hour from Shannon, 30 minutes from Ennis. Many taxis will take up to 8 passengers, and pre-booking will ensure the best rate.

Gerry Devitt, our local taximan extraordinaire, has kindly agreed to arrange taxis for all travelling from Shannon or Ennis (or anywhere within reason!). He is happy to organise taxi sharing for those who may be travelling at the same time. You can call him locally on 086 8303009, or from abroad on +353 86 8303009.

You can also use the Holy Forum to communicate regarding flight arrival times and taxi sharing.

4. Sharing Lifts

We will set up a thread on the Holy Forum for liftshare possibilities. Those travelling by car from Limerick, Cork and Kerry would be able to offer lifts to people travelling from Shannon and Ennis.

From Abroad

There are loads of flights to Shannon Airport, and then you can take a bus to Kilfenora (see bus details above) or take a taxi (see taxi details above).

At the time of going to press, Ryanair have flights from London Luton, Gatwick and Stansted, Bristol, Birmingham, East Midlands, Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as numerous European destinations. There are also regular flights to Shannon from the US.

For train and boat travel from the UK see the excellent Seat 61 website
